At home we do not have a lot of tings which are connected to the internet except PC and mobile phones. I personally have a Google Home Mini 2, it is not connected to anything. It has internet to connect with other smart things and to be able to search things on the internet. The only thing it does right now is playing music on voice commands. Further our thermostat is connected to the internet and is able to be controlled from everywhere. This is not really needed, but it costed the same as one without, so it is a nice function to have. Also, we have a smart TV witch uses internet to stream video’s from the internet.
Two other things which could be connected with the internet are smart lights and smart locks. Light can be controlled via the inter net, so you do not need to walk to the switch and can also be commands with your voice. Locks can be opened and closed with your mobile phone or with other inputs
